Two-stage light gas guns are the only practical devices for launching payloads at velocities over 2,500 m/s.
Along with the capability of operating over a wide range of velocities, two-stage light gas guns can produce low piezometric ratio (the ratio of peak acceleration to average acceleration) launches at the lower end of their velocity range. Thus, two-stage light gas guns are significantly better than powder guns at launching “delicate” projectile packages (e.g. high L/D rod projectiles) at velocities above 1,500 m/s.
Features/Options
- Pump tube and/or launch tube can be adapted for optional use as a single-stage gas gun or solid propellant gun.
- A range of optional launch tube diameters can be supplied for use with a single pump tube.
- Operated on a wide variety of commercially available smokeless propellants.
- Hydraulic couplings offer ease of assembly and optimal clamping of launcher components.
- Launchers can be designed to operate on compressed gas (i.e. no gun powder required).
